My Secret for High Percentage Armlocks from Side Control in BJJ

Want to increase the finish rate with armlocks from side control? Then this video is for you. In this video I’m going to show you my Arm Scoop position from side control along with a ton of important details for finish straight arm locks, kimuras and wrist locks. This is one of my highest percentage attacks in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I’ve done some form of these submissions since I was a White Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and have used them all the way to Black belt.

But as I’ll share, the most important part is the setup. If you use the arm scoop position like I show in the video, you’ll find that it’s so much easier to catch and finish your BJJ submissions from side control.

Enjoy the video and I hope it helps.

Guillotine to Triangle Choke Combo from Full Guard

Today’s BJJ technique idea is a simple Kimura / Kimura Sweep to Guillotine to Triangle Choke from a full guard position.

I like to use the kimura or bump sweep in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to setup techniques because it’s a powerful tool to knock people off balance for a moment. And while they’re off balance you have essentially put yourself a step ahead of them. This makes it easier to setup the submissions you’re after.

So, if you like closed guard, guillotine chokes and triangle chokes then I hope this technique serves you well on the mats.

Thanks for watching.

My Secrets to Finishing More Rear Naked Chokes in BJJ

In today’s video demonstrating the basic techniques I use successfully as a Black Belt. I’m showing you a rear naked choke. I know I know. . . fancy stuff you’ve never seen before. *please read that with the sarcastic tone that was implied.

Now I know you know the rear naked choke or strangle if you prefer. But I still people struggling to finish their chokes for 1 reason or another. So hopefully I can help you fix this in the next 10 minutes with this video if you experience this issue.

In the video I’ll demonstrate some useful details that you could add into your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that could help make your rear naked choke finishing game much better. I’ve also included a few clips of me putting these ideas into practice.

Hope it helps!

Make Your Collar Chokes in BJJ More Effective (Focus on This 1st)

In today’s BJJ technique video I’m going to show you 3 different chokes you can use from back mount with the same collar grip. I’m also going to show you what, in my bearded opinion, is the most important part of getting the choke. . . the setup.

These chokes from back mount are super simple. But I’ve used each one of them at every level of BJJ and even competitions. So they’re legit. Remember, the effectiveness of a technique depends on your skill as a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioner, not the complexity of the movement.

A lot of people in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu get excited about the finish but don’t pay much attention to the setup which is a mistake. The setup and the initial grips on the collar are the most important part of a good collar choke.

Get a good grip and your choke is much easier. Get sloppy with your grip and it’s going to be tough!

This is something to focus on when you are practicing or drilling in your gym.

Hope the video helps give you some ideas for your next BJJ training session.

How To Make Your Armbars Safer & More Effective as a White Belt

Today’s video will show you some simple techniques to make your armbars safer and more effective as a BJJ White Belt.

The video comes from a question I got from a White Belt who’s afraid of falling off too fast with armbars from top position becuase he doesn’t want to injure his training partners or lose the submission.

So in this video I’ll show you how to use the arm you’re not attacking (when using an armbar from top) to anchor yourself to their body and slow the armbar down. This will also help weaken many of the common grips used to defend armbars.

If you’re struggling with armbars then I hope the video helps!

Easy Mount Transition from Side Control by Attacking the Armlock 1st

In today’s video I share an idea on transitioning to mount from side control as you’re attacking with a Kimura. This was one of my favorite transitions as a BJJ White Belt and I’ve continued to use it well into my Black Belt phase of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

If you’ve watched the videos on the channel, then you know I’m a kimura person through and through.

Now, even if you don’t like this particular transition, no worries. You can use the ideas I talk about in the video and tailor them to your game. The big idea here is to focus on having the next technique or move in your game ready to go.

Hope the video helps you and your BJJ training.

If You Use Kimuras from Side Control, You Gotta Try This Choke

Join me in Costa Rica: https://herobjj.com/retreats/chewy/

Today’s Brazilian Jiu-jitsu submission technique video was filmed while I was down in Costa Rica. You’ll hear the faint hum of the fan in the background as it stays at a toasty temperature there year round.

In the video I show a punch choke from a side control position that connects directly together with the Kimura and Armlock sequences I was showing during the BJJ camp.

Anytime I have an arm attack I always like to find a way to connect it with a choke as well since the way you defend the two is usually very different. Enjoy the BJJ technique. I hope it helps.

Triangle Choke for MMA or Fight Situation from Full Guard

Today’s BJJ technique is focused on MMA and fighting although it’s perfectly useable in a regular grappling situation. In the video I’ll show a sequence from Full Guard that we could use to setup triangle chokes or submissions in MMA or a situation where strikes can be thrown.

The key is first establishing control of the distance. And in the case of this setup we’re making sure there is no distance for the person to create power for their strikes.

Next we make our angle and start to setup the triangle choke.

You’ll see variations of this all the time in grappling. But a great example came from Chael Sonnen vs Forrest Griffin in an older IFC fight.

Thanks for watching the video and hope the technique helps.

Brutally Tight Bread Cutter Choke Finishing Detail in BJJ

In today’s video I’m going to show you a nasty adjustment on the bread cutter / paper cutter choke. If you watched me Shotgun Armbar series located here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5…

In that playlist I show a great sequence of armlocks and use the bread cutter / paper cutter choke to add a choking submission threat to the mix of armbar and armlock submissions.

In today’s video I’ll give you 1 finishing detail that makes the paper cutter even nastier.

Hope the detail helps!

How To Transform Your Sloppy Choke into a Tight Strangle

When you watch a good grappler in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu or MMA. You’ll sometimes notice that they seem to let go of a submission or technique even though it looks like it’s there.

Like a choke for example. There are numerous BJJ matches and fights I’ve watched where the grappler seems like they had a choke / strangle technique sunk in but for some reason they let it go.

This is because they could feel that it wasn’t quite right. And this is why in BJJ, grappling and pretty much any fighting sport. You’re always searching for the right feeling of a technique or movement. Because in the heat of the moment you’re not going to be able to determine whether or not it’s correct by looking at all the little details. You just don’t have time.

Instead, you’ll know it’s on by having an intuitive feel of if it’s sunk in correctly or not.

In the video I’ll explain a situation where you can develop this feeling with chokes in BJJ. This will help you transform sloppy chokes that borderline on neck cranks into tight strangles.

Hope the video helps!
