Rolling with My BJJ Students + Q&A At the End

Today’s video is another rolling video from one of my no gi BJJ classes. Everyone seemed to enjoy the 1st rolling video we did like this. So, here’s another. During the video you’ll see me and my students rolling from different positions. And at the end of the video I do some Q&A with the guys on some specific problems they were having. Oh and if you watch the video you’ll even see me get submitted!

This was on a Monday when we have one of my main no gi rolling sessions.

5 BJJ Back Mount Escapes in 3 Minutes

Get stuck in back mount during rolling? Happens to everyone in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at some point. In today’s video I share 6 different ideas on escaping back mount. Some of them are a little funkier than others but I’ve been able to use all of them at some point against tough opponents during rolls.

The escapes include options against top arm side, bottom arm side, and body triangles.

At the end I share a simple back and forth drill you could use as a warm up or to get extra reps in.

The Worst BJJ Advice to give to Strong People

Don’t Use Your Strength! This is something all of us big strong people hear in BJJ from day 1. And in my bearded opinion it’s some of the WORST advice in BJJ, as I’ll explain in the video.

Now, I’m sure if you train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and are a bit smaller, and have had the pleasure of rolling with a 200lbs+ spazzy person, you may be resistant to this idea. But stick with me in the video and I’ll explain why this advice in BJJ leads to poor performances and more injuries.

Purple Belt is Training Harder Than Ever but Not Improving

Today’s question is about not improving in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu even when you’re training harder than ever. This is the basic situation going on for John who’s hit a plateau in his BJJ progress. Now he says he’s training even harder than he used to in order to break out of the plateau, but he’s still stuck.

So, in the video I’ll share why I ditch rolling harder or training harder when I’m trying to break out of a BJJ plateau. Now, keep in mind I’m still training hard. I love training hard. But sometimes going even harder isn’t the best route. Keep in mind that the process I talk about in this video is mine. It might work for you, it might not. I also give some examples of what this process looks like in training during situational rolling or full rolling.

No Gi Rolling with Students: Defending Ankle Locks & Darce Chokes

Today’s video is a bit different than the others in the past. It’s a recording a big rolling session we did during one of my Monday BJJ classes.

During the session you’ll see me roll with multiple students at varying levels. You’ll also see some of my students rolling against one another as well. On the mats that day we had everything from White Belts to Black Belts mixing it up.

Many of you had asked for rolling videos on the channel. Which I’m not opposed to. But it’s a delicate situation in my bearded opinion since we deal with a lot of mental and physical stuff on the mats.

Take More Backs in BJJ with 2 Effective Techniques If They Turtle Up

In today’s basic White Belt BJJ techniques, I use as a Black Belt I’m going to show you 2 of my best back takes that work off a guard passing situation. Taking the back off of a guard pass when the person turtles up is one of my most successful ways to secure back mount in Brazilian Jiujitsu.

The back takes are simple and can be used as shown or combined together with other Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques. I’ve hit both of these techniques at grappling competitions like the No Gi Pans, Pans , ADCC trials and others.

Guillotine to Triangle Choke Combo from Full Guard

Today’s BJJ technique idea is a simple Kimura / Kimura Sweep to Guillotine to Triangle Choke from a full guard position.

I like to use the kimura or bump sweep in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to setup techniques because it’s a powerful tool to knock people off balance for a moment. And while they’re off balance you have essentially put yourself a step ahead of them. This makes it easier to setup the submissions you’re after.

So, if you like closed guard, guillotine chokes and triangle chokes then I hope this technique serves you well on the mats.

Out of Shape White Belt Wants to Improve Cardio for BJJ Rolling

Today’s Q&A video is from a brand-new White Belt who gasses out too fast during BJJ training and wants to improve his cardio. Now his request is for options other than just the obvious, roll more solution.

So in this video I share 2 ideas that will help improve your cardio or “gas tank” for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I’ve kept the tips as simple as possible. Doesn’t mean they’re easy, but if you act on the 2 suggestions I give in the video I guarantee you’ll be able to roll longer and have more energy for BJJ training.

I say this from my experience and also the experience of many of my students.

These BJJ players are B*tching Out

In today’s BJJ Q&A video I answer a question about a Blue Belt who is smashing people in side control.

The question comes from a guy who is a higher belt in his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym and has recently seen a Blue Belt smashing people in side control. And once he gets there he doesn’t move, he just sits and squeezes. And the higher belt is curious as to whether or not he should say something because a lot of people don’t want to roll with the Blue Belt because it’s boring to them.

In the video I give my thoughts on the situation and why I would talk to the other BJJ students (not the Blue Belt) first. Because in the end, BJJ is about being challenged. And you can’t just give up because things get tough.

New Series Coming: Basic Techniques I Use As A Black Belt

Just wanted to let you guys know I’ll be doing a new series on the channel showing some of my most basic techniques that I actually use in competition and high level rolling successfully.

The upcoming videos will be longer as I’m going to go deep into the details that make them work. But I think the techniques could be really useful as most of them are options you’ve probably been doing since you were a white belt.
